Interview with Sonia Hunter - Director, Greenfield & Hunter
What led to the launch of Greenfield & Hunter? How did it originate?
“I worked for the previous owners of Greenfield for two years and then went off to work for a decorator. About 12 months later the owners decided to retire and I purchased the business from them. I have had the business for 5 years now. Just over two years ago I decided to move the business to a new premises and changed the name to Greenfield & Hunter. I thought it would be a good time to blend the old history of Greenfield with the new image and direction we are working towards.”
What are your favourite collections at the moment?
“It is difficult to always pick a favourite when we have so many beautiful things. I probably love the Jean Paul Gaultier collections. I love the rock edgy look. Also one of my favourites would have to be Elitis wallpapers. A beautiful French brand that is very exclusive.”
Any outstanding projects or collaborations in the history of Greenfield & Hunter?
“We don’t always know where our product gets used but we do know that our leather is being used in the new 2KW bar on top of the Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant at the moment. Our product is also being installed in the newly renovated Cathedral Hotel.”
What is one of the biggest challenges your fabric agency has overcome?
“Our biggest challenge is promoting our huge range of products on social media, Facebook, our Website and Instagram have really helped in this area and raised our profile in the market. It has been a useful way of keeping clients up to date with what’s happening at Greenfield & Hunter.”
What trends have you noticed in fabric design that you are excited about?
“Metallics and coppers have been huge this season. Textured wallpapers especially grass weaves have also been very popular.”
How would you characterise Australian style and what makes it so enduring?
“Australian style is simple uncomplicated design. Soft tones of colour with natural fibres really suit our environment. A very casual relaxed look that reflects our lifestyle.”
